Excess

Excess

Whenever I see a giant American hypermarket, I feel nauseous. I feel uncomfortable seeing too many things and I know that a big part of it will be wasted. It’s too much. And there still are hungers everywhere, and the planet is dying. It is like I just discovered how the word “materialism” taste like: disgusting. No wonder things like alternative medicine, vintage fashion or healthy cuisine are en vogue. Some people are tired of this excess of wealth. Of course those alternatives have some problems of their own as well.

I am not sure that I am above that because I’m still enjoying shopping. I know this is something inherent to human, we want to have things, to possess things: to have our belly full, to have a good shelter, to have enough clothes. And sometimes we want to be richer than our neighbors. But this is too much. You don’t need a mansion with 12 bedrooms. You don’t need 20 Hermes bags of different colors. You don’t need a billion dollars. A billionaire shouldn’t exist. It’s unethical. No one should have more than 10 million. And that is me being generous.

I am socialist but I think this is just a mature thinking. You takes enough for your need, not more, especially not twice, not thrice or for somes million times more than what you need. Sometimes you should even take only half of what you need when there’s another person wanting the same thing as you and there is only one. This is just commun sense, which unfortunately seems to be not common at all.
